ISLAMABAD: According to a United Nations report, the world population could surpass 9.7 billion in 2050, with half of that increase concentrated in eight countries, including Pakistan. President Dr. Arif Alvi and other stakeholders have sought measures to slow down population growth in Pakistan by “normalising family planning.”
According to the “World Population Prospects 2022” study, which was released by the UN a day earlier to celebrate World Population Day, the world population will surpass eight billion in November of this year. These eight nations, in addition to Pakistan, are accountable for this growth.According to the most recent estimates, the population could increase to approximately 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050 before peaking at approximately 10.4 billion throughout the 2080s.
The report stated that Asia’s demographic growth contributed to the addition of half of the eighth billion people to the global population. In addition, it said that by 2023, India would overtake China as the world’s most populous nation, and on November 15 the world’s population will hit eight billion.
Pakistan held the fifth spot among the top 10 countries in 2022, and it is predicted that Pakistan will hold that position in 2050, up from its eighth place on the 1990 list of the world’s 10 most populous nations.
