LAHORE: Imran Khan, the chairman of the PTI, was called in on Tuesday (today) by a joint investigation team (JIT) looking into the attack on the Lahore Corps Commander House (Jinnah House) on May 9.
Mr. Khan has been asked to appear before the JIT at the Qilla Gujjar police department at 4pm.
In a case against the attack reported to the Sarwar Road police station, he has been summoned for questioning.
Mr. Khan has been included in the lawsuit for allegedly helping the terrorists who ransacked and set fire to the Jinnah House while he was in custody.
Kamran Adil, the Lahore DIG (investigation) in charge of the JIT, issued the summons. “Imran Khan has to attend the office of the DIG Investigation to join the inquiry proceedings entrusted to the JTI formed by the Punjab government,” the statement read.
The PTI leader has been called in for interrogation, according to Lahore police commissioner Bilal Siddique Kamyana.
The former prime minister will reportedly be questioned to ascertain the extent of his involvement in the attack, according to an official source.
Other key PTI leaders and activists have also been named in the FIR, he continued.
After visiting the Kot Lakhpat jail on Monday, where PTI leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid and fashion designer Khadija Shah are detained, Lahore SSP (investigation) Dr. Anoosh Masood summoned Imran Khan. They were detained in relation to the assault.
Imran Khan accused the Punjab interim administration of “maltreating PTI’s women supporters who were in prison” before the SSP visited.
He stated on Sunday, “I have heard about the rape of PTI women political prisoners,” without offering any proof.
One of the 53 JITs made up of police personnel and notified by the Punjab government to undertake and complete investigations into the cases recorded in the wake of the May 9 attacks across the state is led by SSP Anoosh Masood.
She is going to probe into the assaults on the police, the Askari Tower, and other delicate facilities.
