Government debt reached Rs 76,07 billion in the first 9 months of the current fiscal year.

Islamabad:
The total debt of the federal government reached Rs 76,07 billion in the first 9 months of the current fiscal year 2024-25.

According to the National Economic Survey 2024-25, the total debt of the government has reached Rs 76,07 billion by the end of March, in which the volume of domestic debt was recorded at Rs 51,518 billion and the volume of external debt was recorded at Rs 24,489 billion.

The survey stated that the volume of interest payments on government debt in the first 9 months of the fiscal year was recorded at Rs 6,439 billion, in which Rs 5,783 billion was paid on domestic debt and Rs 656 billion on external debt.

It was further stated that during this period, the government purchased government securities worth Rs 1 trillion and issued Sharia-compliant Sukuk worth Rs 1.6 trillion in the first 9 months of the fiscal year.

According to the Economic Survey, a total of $5.1 billion in external assistance was received during this period, of which $2.8 billion was provided by multilateral partners and $0.3 billion by bilateral partners.

The government received $1.5 billion in loans from the Naya Pakistan Certificate and $0.56 billion from commercial banks.

According to the survey, Pakistan received $1.03 billion in assistance under the Extended Fund Facility of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
