Islamabad: The Asian Squash Federation (ASF) has announced to postpone the Asian Individual Squash Championship for Men and Women due to the unstable covid-19 circumstances across the world, which was initially planned to be held between August 25 to 29, at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad.
According to a press release issued by ASF on Friday, the same would now be held in the third week of December, 2021, while prior to Asian Individual in Islamabad, two major squash championships are planned in Kualalumpur, Malaysia as well. ‘The Asian Squash Team Championship for Men & Women would be played between November 16 to 20, whereas World Mens’ Team Championship would be held from 07 – 11 December, 2021’, reads the press release.
In order to select the best possible players to represent Pakistan during above mentioned championships in Pakistan & Malaysia, Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) would hold trials at Islamabad in August-21 timeframe. Pakistani players have already been informed to make them available for participation in trials. Players’ selection would be done in due course of time. To extract outstanding results during major squash events, the selected players would remain under training at Pakistan National Squash Academy Islamabad till commencement of these events. Good discipline has to be ensured by every player all the time.
Pakistan Squash Federation has also forwarded a request to Pakistan Sports Board for restoration of squash activities so that training / practice of the players throughout Pakistan could be resumed on priority. Moreover, PSF has also directed provincial squash associations & affiliated departments to plan national & international squash events and conduct the same following Covid-19 SOPs after required coordination with respective Govt authorities. This would help Pakistani players to improve their national & international ranking for participation in future international events.
