Gilgit: A few days after ascending 8,051-meter Broad Peak, Russian-Polish climber Denis Urubko broke another record by ascending 8,035-meter Gasherbrum-II in just 15 hours.
He has reached the top of G2 five times, and overall, he is the eighth climber to successfully scale all 14 eight-thousanders without using any additional oxygen.According to Denis Urubko’s official Facebook page, on July 23, the high-altitude mountaineer completed a new, intriguing composition in the Karakoram.
He left base camp alone at three in the morning and travelled by the ice field, the long glacier, and the traditional G2 route with a few pauses for breakfast or lunch. At 18:20, he finally arrived at the summit. Denis thoroughly liked his private experience because no one else was present on the hills in the upper camps.
On July 19, after initially assisting with the installation of ropes on G2, he took “a break” and made a strong ascent of Broad Peak. After a 25-hour journey, he returned to base camp right away at 4 am the next morning, exhausted but happy. For that distant area, such an expedition could seem like a first, however for Urubko, it is his sixth time climbing G2 and his 25th ascent of any peak higher than 8,000 metres.
On July 19, climber Urubko spent 14 hours ascending Broad Peak (8,030m). He began the Broad Peak summit push from of the base camp and finished it in in 14 hours. Urubko returned immediately to the camp site the same day after reaching the summit. The expedition was successfully completed by Urubko, who also made a third ascent of Broad Peak.
Ahmed Hussain and Abbas Ali from Shigar summited G2 in a separate trip.
