LOS ANGELES: Authorities reported on Sunday that the most recent wildfire in California had spread quickly in the state’s central highlands, just as firefighters were putting out a sizable blaze to the south of Los Angeles.
In just four days, the Mosquito Fire in the Sierra Nevada range northeast of San Francisco has burned through an area of more than 41,000 acres (16,600 hectares).
Only 10% of the fire, which has burned through parts of El Dorado and Placer counties, according to Cal Fire, has been put out.
According to the report, stronger winds were driving the fire to the north and northeast, endangering hundreds of homes, even though cooler temperatures had partially halted the fire’s spread after more than a week of intense heat.
The little community of Foresthill is under increasing threat, and “a number of further evacuation orders and advisories have been issued.” . Georgetown, Volcanoville, and Bottle Hill were among the communities that received an early evacuation order.
