Forming another committee

Another committee has been formed after the Peshawar carnage to deal with the growing threat of terrorism. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif asked Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan to formulize anti-terror plan. Prime Minister called all parties conference to bring all the political parties on same page against the terrorism. But instead of all party conferences government should have used the platform of parliament. If joint sessions of parliament can be called at a time when government finds itself in blue waters then why not now? We have witnessed the long joint sessions of parliament to save the democracy when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek were holding sit-ins right outside the parliament building then what bars the government to hold another joint session to get the inputs of all the parliamentarians when country is facing major threats of terrorism. Government must summon joint session of parliament to discuss counter-terrorism strategy after massacre of Peshawar. Had the Prime Minister attended the Senate session two days ago, it would have been of paramount importance in terms of democratic norms. Experts are also pointing fingers on the capacity of the parliamentary committee to frame a comprehensive anti-terrorism policy. They are of the view that anti-terrorism experts should be given nod to do the job. Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan revealed much hyped National Security Policy in March this year but it was not implemented with true spirit. The government should have given a plan of action. They should have sought views from experts for improvement. So far, unfortunately it did not do anything and rather formed another committee. In past, committees have failed to deliver in Pakistan. Committees have a tendency to shift blame of inaction to others. Unfortunately, In Pakistan the history speaks volume of the facts that committees never do the job and their formation has always been aimed at putting the issue under the carpet. It seems that government has a reactionary approach towards issues rather than a long lasting one.
