KARAK :Three policemen were martyred and six sustained injuries when terrorists opened fire with heavy weapons on a check post in Karak early on Thursday.According to the Karak DPO (District Police Officer), the terrorists wanted to capture the Bahadur Khel check post, but fled the scene after police returned the fire.
A heavy police contingent immediately arrived at the site, cordoning off the area and launching a search operation to apprehend the perpetrators. The injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital from where two seriously injured personnel were referred to Peshawar.
The funeral prayer for the martyred policemen was offered at Karak Police Lines at 10am. The bodies were sent to their native villages for burial.Later, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IG (Inspector General) Zulfiqar Hameed told media that police bravely fought terrorists for two hours and forced them to flee.
The attack came just days after a policeman was shot dead by extremists in Khyber district during an anti-polio campaign.
