KARACHI: On Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif travelled to Karachi for a day. The premier will be a special guest at the textile expo and lay the foundation for the K-IV project at the Chief Minister House.

The K-IV project will “help meet the water requirements of the people and industries of Karachi, thus leading to the economic development of Pakistan,” according to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

Shah continued, “It is encouraging to see the federal and provincial administrations place a high priority on the prompt completion of this project.

The project will, in its initial phase, supply Karachi with 260 million gallons of water daily, according to the minister.

Shah emphasised that Karachi has a daily water need of 1,200 million gallons and that the Hub Dam and Keenjhar Lake (Indus River) provide the Karachi Water Board with roughly 600 million gallons of water each day.

He went on to say that Karachi’s population growth would result in an ever-widening imbalance between water demand and supply. The minister continued by saying that the timely and successful completion of the K-IV project was the only factor that could satisfy Karachi’s water needs.

“K-IV will provide Karachi with water in a total of 650 million gallons per day (MGD) in three phases,” he declared.
