Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairperson and former president, Asif Ali Zardari on Monday said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has reverted to revenge politics of the 1990s, referring to the recent arrests of high-profile PPP members. He said first Qasim Zia and Senator Bangash’s son were arrested, which was followed by Dr Asim’s arrest by Rangers. Immediately afterwards, warrants for the arrests of former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani and Makhdoom Amin Fahim were also issued. Zardari also revealed that bureaucrats working in Sindh were also being harassed by FIA and NAB.
While criticizing PML N he said that if government is planning for fair accountability of all, it should take actions against ministers who have confessed before magistrate for involvement in money laundering. Zardari directly alleged that directions of clear pattern of political harassment and revenge are being given by the Prime Minister office. He also said that Nawaz Sharif should learn lessons from past and politics of revenge should immediately be halted otherwise it would lead towards disastrous consequences.
Here it seems that Zardari has no objection if authorities are taking actions against corrupt elements, but it is hard for him to digest if same actions are being taken against PPP members. It is a known fact that money earned by illegal means is being spent to sponsor terrorists. If NAB or FIA taking action against culprits involved in mega corruption cases, they secure the right to do so. Zardari’s demand has value that if government is sincere for accountability nobody should be spared considering political affiliations. But his demand that PPP members should not be touched for alleged corruption cases is beyond common sense. Party’s senior vice president Sherry Rehman said PPP has always respected the judiciary than PPP should have faith on judiciary, if their leaders are innocent they would be cleared from corruption charges with dignity.
PPP should have faith on judiciary if their members are not involved in corruption they would be cleared with dignity.
