Islamabad:
Video sharing-website Youtube is accessible in most cities of the county for the fourth week running, Daily The Patriot has learned. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had blocked the video-sharing website for not removing blasphemous content on the interim order of Supreme Court of Pakistan in September 2012.
An official of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, when asked about accessibility of YouTube in Pakistan told the scribe that Youtube is still officially banned and there is no change in the Government’s stance. He added that the availability of Youtube is merely due to a technical glitch. However, the official failed to clarify as to why the ‘technical glitch’ has persisted for nearly four-weeks. According to a recent survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 51% Pakistanis believe that the ban on YouTube should not be lifted.
