RAWALPINDI: Former Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani on Monday thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif for his efforts leading towards recovery of Ali Haider Gillani.

The former prime minister along with son Ali Haider Gillani called on the COAS at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday.Yousaf Raza Gilani and Ali Haider Gilani meet General Raheel Sharif, says a press release of the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

During the meeting, the former prime minister expressed his gratitude to the army chief for his support in the recovery of Ali Haider Gillani.

On the occasion, Ali Gilani told General Raheel Sharif that he is the only person in Pakistan who is feared by the Taliban.

During the meeting, ex-PM Yousaf Raza Gilani discussed issues concerning national security and the success of operation Zarb-e-Azb.

Ali Haider Gillani returned home on May 11 this year after a three-year captivity in Afghanistan. He was abducted by militants from Multan on May 09, 2013 while he was participating in an election campaign, and was recovered in a joint operation carried out by the Afghan and US security forces in Afghanistan’s southeastern Ghazni province.

Ali Haider’s was not the only high-profile abduction in Pakistan in recent years.

Shahbaz Taseer, the son of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, was kidnapped in 2011. He was recovered in the Pakistani city of Quetta in March this year.
