ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Imran Khan has once again ruled out the possibility of lockdown due to coronavirus and said that he would never had allowed provinces to implement such lockdown if consulted. He was speaking at the ceremony for commencement of three Ehsaas initiatives, including Ehsaas Rashan Portal, Ehsaas Langar and Panagah App and PM’s COVID-19 Relief Fund website, in Islamabad Monday. “We have to protect our people from coronavirus as well as from poverty. Government wants people to open businesses under the SOPs,” Imran Khan said. He said that the government has implemented smart lockdown in Coronavirus hotspots of the country to protect mainly the most vulnerable people. The Prime Minister said the elderly people and those already suffering from serious diseases are the most vulnerable people, and if they are protected against Coronavirus, the impact of the pandemic will get considerably reduced. He said the next one month is difficult for dealing with the pandemic. He said the government is striving to protect people from the adverse impact of the lockdown and maintained that the government didn’t enforce a stricter lockdown like his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi did in the neighbouring country. In India, the prime minister said, the complete lockdown severely affected the poverty-stricken people and rendered about 34 per cent people either hungry or prone to the diseases. Imran Khan said Ehsaas program and the government s policy of easing the lockdown have helped lessen the effect of the COVID-19. The Prime Minister said PM’s Coronavirus Relief Fund has been established to financially help the people who lost their employments because of the lockdown. He said the government will add four rupees against each rupee donated in the fund. He said the website of the Fund will help donors reach the deserving people. He said the government will continue facilitating a connection between donors and the deserving people. He said the government will incrementally increase the number of Panagahs and Langarkhans to expand the network. He said donors will be informed about their every penny donated for welfare of the people. He said Pakistanis are one of the most charity-giving nations. Imran Khan has reiterated that the government’s resolve to account for every penny donated to the PM’s Corona Relief Fund. He said the federal government will disclose all details of how public money was spent in a transparent manner, lauding the Pakistan nation’s spirit of making generous donations. Special Assistant on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation briefed the Prime Minister on the three new initiatives of Ehsaas programme. The commencement of Ehsaas Rashan Portal, Ehsaas Langar and Panagah App and PM s Covid-19 Relief Fund website is aimed at facilitating and empowering welfare organizations and enabling them to play a more coordinated role with the government in responding to the COVID-19 situation.
