ISLAMABAD: The World Science Day for Peace and Development (WSDPD) 2014 will be celebrated on Monday across the world, including Pakistan, to raise awareness regarding the benefits of science world wide.
Pakistan Science Foundation will celebrate this day in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, UNESCO, CIIT, Intel and other stake holders at PSF Auditorium, G-5/2, Islamabad. The Federal Minister of Science and Technology Zahid Hamid will be the chief guest of the ceremony. The purpose of “World Science Day for Peace and Development (WSDPD)” is to renew the national, as well as the international commitment to Science for peace and development and to stress the reasonable use of Science for the benefit of society. Since 2002, In Pakistan, celebrations of the World Science Day for Peace and Development on November 10 each year has become a regular programme of the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF). This year theme of World Science Day is “Quality Science Education”. During the celebration, the Federal Minister for S&T Mr. Zahid Hamid, Dr. Ashfaq Ahmad, N.I., H.I., S.I. and Dr. Hassan Bilal from UNESCO will talk on the need of Quality Science Education in Pakistan. This day will be celebrated by organizing various activities like presentations and talks by the Scientists, competitions among the high school students on various scientific themes. The most important component of World Science Day will be award of “PSF Dr. Z.A. Hashmi Gold Medal” to the outstanding Principal Investigators of PSF funded projects. Prizes and Certificates will also be awarded to winner students of PSF 23rd Annual Inter Board Science Essay and Poster Competitions.
