Different parts of the country are going through the change in season and the cold is increasing day by day as the rains continue to pour. Farfetched areas of Balochistan and Sindh recently affected by floods have a large number of people who are in dire need of tents, shelter, food and warm clothes as they are going through harsh times. Similarly, the residents of Astore in the Northern areas are facing shortage of firewood and wheat. Shah Mehmood Qureshi has announced that he is the one who will be leading the march from Wazirabad, the same place where an assassination attempt on Imran Khan was allegedly made because a young man was angry at him regarding his remarks which hurt the religious sentiments of the shooter. Khan will join in and lead the march from Rawalpindi as announced by Shah Mehmood and Imran Khan himself.
An announcement was made by Pervez Khattak that Islamabad will be blocked through protests which would in reality have little effect on the already fierce political rivalry façade but more on the daily commute and hardships of the residents of Islamabad who always have to suffer because of these protests and long marches which have become a very frequent affair in current times. Though, the Islamabad Police has clearly stated that any protests or sit-ins that place without the permission of the administration will be met by force. Faizabad has reportedly been choked all day today because of a sit-in by a group of PTI supporters where an overly smart acting participant got slapped by a senior party representative Fiaz Ul Hassan Chauhan who lost his temper at a worker because of a small mistake.
This shows the lack of leadership and goal in the management of little events such as this. No side seems to be backing down and only time will tell who comes out on top. Karachi and Lahore this time too faced many disruptions in the normal running of daily life of the residents this time as there have been reports of another group of protesters blocking many main intersections for hours causing a lot of trouble for the commuters. The Supreme Court has intervened by giving 24 hour timeline to register FIR regarding the incident that took place on Thursday. Maulana Fazlur Rehman being the second political person after Sharjeel Memon to term this incident of Thursday as merely an ‘’act’’ rather than a real assassination attempt.
Now that it is imminent that the FIR will soon be registered, it is yet to see which persons will be nominated as the accused. The PTI has announced that instead of continuing the long march on Tuesday as previously announced by the leader of eager workers, long march will now be restarted from Wednesday. Does this mean that the notice taken by Supreme Court has cooled matters down a little? Or PTI is too startled to take any serious decisions at the moment and needs to rethink its strategy according to the changing situation in the political arena.
Whatever it may be, will be made evident in the few days to come. Let’s hope that everything that takes place serves justice to the ones who deserve it and punishment to those who are guilty of this mess. The common man on the other hand is impatiently waiting for political stability in the country that would bring stability to the economy and move the nation away from the burden of high taxes and inflation. The sooner this drama comes to an end the better, as the focus will be shifted towards the crumbling situation of the common public of the country which is not only standing face to face with rising inflation and lower purchasing power but also has to face consequences of such political confrontations because of the politicians and guardians it has trusted to make the country a better place to live.
