US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller has confirmed that he received a letter from members of Congress regarding talks with the government of Pakistan for the release of Imran Khan, to which he will respond ‘at the appropriate time’.
These views were expressed by Matthew Miller, the spokesperson of the US Department of State, in response to a journalist’s question during a routine press briefing.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller emphasized the importance of respecting human rights and said that he has always supported democratic traditions.
It should be remembered that on October 23, 60 members of the Congress have written a letter to the Joe Biden administration, demanding the release of other political prisoners, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf founder Imran Khan, imprisoned in Adiala Jail.
In their letter, the members of the assembly urged the Joe Biden government to support human rights and democracy in Pakistan and discuss it with Pakistan. Members of Congress have also mentioned the crackdown on Internet and social media platforms in Pakistan, as well as alleged irregularities in elections. Through their letter, the members of Congress asked President Joe Biden to use their ties with Pakistan to secure Imran Khan’s release.
