Says history will tell who invited third party to mediate or facilitate

ISLAMABAD: Shah Mehmood Qureshi, senior PTI leader, said Wednesday that his party was not part of any ‘script’ or grand plan to derail democracy while emphasizing that his party was open to dialogue to resolve the present crisis.

After the speech, which was punctuated by hooting and shouting by PML-N members, Qureshi along with other PTI MNAs left the house without announcing their resignations on the floor of the assembly?

Speaking at a joint session of the parliament, Qureshi said that an impression has been created in recent days that PTI was involved or part of any grand plan.

“On the floor of the house, I say that PTI was never and will never be the part of any such plan,” he asserted.

Qureshi said that they were not inviting any third party to resolve the current political crisis.

“History will tell who invited third party to mediate or facilitate,” he said, referring to government’s request to the COAS Gen Raheel Sharif to play his role in resolving the current political crisis.

Qureshi said people say that PTI was staging the sit-in because it was getting ‘signal’ from certain quarter, adding that they did got a ‘signal’ not from anyone but from the people of Pakistan.

Qureshi said that PTI set four core principles before the start of this long march. These principles are i.e. this struggle will be to save democracy, to protect constitution, will remain peaceful and any unconstitutional intervention would be opposed.

PTI leader said people propagated that parliament would be assaulted, adding that the parliament is dear to him as well and that they were not against the parliament.

“We are here to save this parliament, not to burn it down,” he said.

He said that PTI leadership including Imran Khan was against any assault on state institutions.

Qureshi criticized government’s handling of the crisis, adding that Islamabad was turned into Gaza as scores of people were killed and injured.

He urged the parliamentarians to understand the frustration and haplessness of the protestors following the Lahore massacre in which over a dozen PAT workers were brutally martyred by Punjab police.

He also questioned on whose orders media persons were assaulted.

He said that this crisis is political in nature, urging all the parliamentarians to keep the egos aside to build a democratic Pakistan as envisaged by the father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam.

“This can only happen if there is a mechanism in place to ensure free and fair elections.”

Qureshi said that his party is ready to negotiate with the committee of opposition members.“We are ready to break the stalemate with open hearts,” he asserted.NNI
