Former Pakistani High Commissioner (HC) to the United KingdomWajid Shamsul Hasan recently in a speech at the annual convention of Ahmadis held in United Kingdom said that the decision to declare Ahmadis as non Muslims was wrong. The former HC went on to say that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto made the wrong choice to declare Ahmadis as non Muslims and if he was alive today he would have admitted that he took the wrong decision. He further added that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto took the step as he was under pressure from certain groups.
Wajid Shamsul Hasan is probably unaware of the fact that the decision to declare Ahmadi’s as non Muslims was not taken by a certain person or group. The step was taken after a thorough debate in the parliament of Pakistan where the Ahmadi’s were given every chance to put forward their own point of view in which they complete failed and as a result the Second Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan became a part of the Constitution of Pakistan on September 7, 1974 and under the amendment it was declared that Ahmadis were not Muslims.
It is unfathomable that how a Muslim can accept that a person who doesn’t accept the Doctrine of Finality of Prophethood (Khatm-e-Nubuwwat) can be regarded as a Muslim. By making remarks which are not only against the constitution of Pakistan but also against our great religion Islam, Wajid Shamsul Hassan has severely hurt the sentiments of millions of Muslims not just in Pakistan but across the world. The comments by the former HC clearly hint at his ignorance on the matter. Punjab Assembly lawmakers have also condemned the remarks of the former HC and demanded that a terrorism case be registered against Shams for his comments.
The remarks of the former HC hint at his ignorance of the matter and have hurt the feelings of millions of Muslims across the world.
