Vietnam invites Pak Parliamentary delegation at IPU in March

ISLAMABAD Jan, 22 (INP):  Pakistan and Vietnam enjoy friendly and cooperative relations and Pakistan values her support in Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).

These views were expressed by Chairman Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Sardar Awais Leghari during his meeting with H.E. Nguyen Xuan Luu, the Ambassador of Socialist Republic of Vietnam on Wednesday here at Parliament House.

Both sides discussed the scope of cementing people to people contacts and parliamentary ties between two nations. The ambassador expressed the sincere desire to further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the National Assembly of Pakistan and the National Assembly of Vietnam. Awais Leghari said that parliamentary exchanges can help a great deal in taking our relationship beyond formal bureaucratic contacts between governments.

The Ambassador hoped to see the representation of the National Assembly of Pakistan in Hanoi for upcoming 132nd session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union due to be held in March this year. He appreciated the idea of Parliamentary Friendship Groups in the legislatures of two countries and expressed hope to activate the group set up in the National Assembly of Pakistan for Vietnam.

Awais Leghari urged the early convening of the third session of Joint Ministerial Commission and Joint Trade Commission to put the bilateral trade on fast track. He expressed hope that the postponed visit to Pakistan by the Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam would be rescheduled soon.

The ambassador informed that the bilateral trade volume between Pakistan and Vietnam surpassed US$ 400 million in 2014 and vowed to work closely with the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs in order to enhance cooperation in the fields of education and culture.
