Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left for United Kingdom on Wednesday amid the Panama Papers storm that has posed a serious challenge for the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz government. The revelations of the Panama Papers were serious in nature but the conflicting statements from the Sharif family and the overly aggressive approach of government Minister’s has compounded the problems for the ruling family.
Critics also questioned as to why the country’s Prime Minister has to go abroad for a medical check up. Is no hospital in the country good enough for the treatment of our rulers? Even if you exclude the previous stints of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) government, the party has been in power in Punjab for the best part of last eight years. It is during this time that the Punjab government spent 30 billion on the construction of the Lahore Metro bus project, another 50 billion was spent on the Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus project and now the government has undertaken the 150 billion Lahore Orange Line Train project. It is unfortunate that despite the fact that the government has billions to spend on infrastructure projects it has criminally neglected the health sector. If proper health care facilities were available in the country our honorable Prime Minister wouldn’t have felt the need to go to London for his medical check up.
The issue of government’s misplaced priorities has been raised on various occasions and the incumbent government has still plenty of time to reassess its priorities and spend money where it is desperately needed. The healthcare sector in the country is in miserable condition be it any provinces, sincere efforts are needed by the Federal and provincial governments to rectify the situation.
The myth of improving healthcare facilities in the country has once again been exposed.
