ISLAMABAD: The Afghan ambassador Dr Umer Zakhelwal, called on Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, at his residence here and discussed with him the regional situation and the relations between the two neighbouring countries.
The JIP chief told the Afghan envoy at the meeting that restoration of peace was the joint responsibility of the two neighbouring states besides the other Muslim countries. However, he said that peace in the region could not be established as long as the US and NATO forces remained here. He said if the US really wanted peace in the region, it should immediately pull out its forces from Afghanistan and allow the Afghan people to decide their affairs by their free will.
Sirajul Haq said the US had repeatedly sabotaged the talks between the Kabul regime and the Taliban groups as it desired all the talks in Afghan to be subservient to US interests. He said the US policy to build India as regional policeman and increase its influence in Afghanistan was tantamount to plunge the region into chaos and anarchy on permanent basis. He said that the Afghan government and the Afghan people too were not ready to accept this US policy.
The two leaders also discussed the impact of the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s visit of the two countries. INP
