WASHINGTON, Nov 19 (INP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif held meetings with US Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey, Deputy Secretary Defense Robert Work and Commandant US Marines General Joseph Dunford in Washington.
According to Director General ISPR, Major General Asim Bajwa, focus of meetings was security, Afghanistan, and military-to-military relations.
The talks focused on the situation in Afghanistan and on the military operation Pakistan launched earlier this year to destroy militant hideouts in its tribal belt.
General Raheel Sharif clarified that the impression of forces not acting against the Haqqani Network are false and unfounded. On the other hand, the US forces and security officials praised Pakistan Armys efforts in war against terror.
Raheel Sharif was also conferred with US Legion of Merit military medal for brave leadership, sagacity, vision, efforts for peace and stability in South Asia region.
The army chief was presented gun salute in the United States at an impressive guard of honor ceremony. General Raheel reviewed the parade. The US Army Chief was also present in the ceremony.
The Pakistan Army delegation under the leadership of the COAS was scheduled to visit Capital Hill and will also meet US Congress members.
