Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif has confessed that incumbent federal government’s inability to resolve the energy crisis until 2018.
Leaders of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz had pledged during elections campaign for general elections of 2013 that if masses would elect them, they would eliminate issue of electricity shortage in months. After winning the elections Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif termed it an emotional claim of his younger brother and said it would take couple of years to bridge gab of supply and demand of electricity.
But now Federal Minister has admitted that despite in power for almost three years, government has failed to fulfill its promise regarding resolution of the energy crisis.
Khawaja Asif made these disappointing revelations in a written reply submitted in the lower house of the Parliament. On the other side, very recently through massive advertisement in print and electronic media, PML-N government was busy making tall claims about its excellent performance in the energy sector.
Amid long hours of load shedding, there seems no end in sight to the crippling energy woes. Minister of relevant ministry has different version but premier has very recently claimed that there will be no load shedding by the end of his government’s term in 2018 while the concerned minister is saying quite the opposite. It seems that either there is communication gab among the cabinet ministers or they are passing confusing remarks on purpose.
It is an irony of our political culture that politicians have a habit to make pledges but usually they end up disappointing the masses. To eradicate the electricity crisis government first claimed to do that in days, then months, latter it was extended to two years and lastly till the end of its tenure.
Government should stop its false claims and find strategies to fulfill their promises.
