PESHAWAR, Aug 25 (INP): The Awami National Party (ANP) president Asfandyar Wali Khan on Monday said he and his party were siding with the Parliament and not with Nawaz Sharif. He said minus-one formula can’t work in Pakistan and demand or the resignation of the prime minister at gun point is unconstitutional.

Speaking at a press conference, Asfandyar Wali said a drama was under way in Islamabad in the name of ‘revolution’ and ‘change’.

The ANP president said conditions had become such that no country wanted to deal with Pakistan, adding that the fact that two heads of states had cancelled their visits to the country should be a cause for concern. He questioned the objective of the sit-ins. He said there is a provision in the constitution on how to remove the prime minister and the tradition being laid today is very dangerous.

He described the resignation by PTI members from assemblies as without justification and said there is a limit to the ego of anyone. He said if people would not pay taxes, how the state would run.

He said the ANP would fully support the meetings to be organized by Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s party. Wali’s statements come as the protests led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) entered their 12th day on Monday.

Flanked by Ameer Haider Hoti and Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Wali also addressed the issue of Waziristan, saying the matter could not be resolved without reforms in the tribal areas.

“It is not in our interest to keep Fata in isolation,” he said, adding that it should be up to the people of Fata whether they want to be an independent province or be merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Wali’s statements on Waziristan come as the Army is engaged in an offensive against local and foreign militants in the North Waziristan tribal region.
