UNITED NATIONS: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will travel to Pakistan to demonstrate his support for the flood victims after the country was swamped by above-average monsoon rains that caused excessive flooding that claimed over 1,100 lives.
According to Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN leader, “the Secretary-General will travel to Pakistan next week for a solidarity visit due to the dreadful situation facing millions of men, women, and children affected by catastrophic floods in Pakistan.”
According to Dujarric, Guterres would fly into Islamabad on September 9 and visit “the districts most devastated by this historic climatic calamity.”On September 11, after visiting the flood-affected districts, he is anticipated to depart the nation.
The head of the UN will be brought to the flood-affected districts where he will speak with displaced families and local humanitarian organisations. The United Governments made a plea to the world’s nations earlier in the day to raise $160 million in relief for the flood victims.
At the same time, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasised the significance of taking action to mitigate the effects of climate change. He also urged the world community to do more to combat global warming and its effects.”Considering that greenhouse gas emissions are still increasing globally, it is ridiculous that climate action is being neglected.
