RAWALPINDI: Punjab government has allocated 6.77 billions funds for construction of four new small dams in the province including two in Rawalpindi to overcome increasing shortage of water.
According to details, two news dams would be built in Rawalpindi while one dam each in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur.
Construction work on the dams would be started from next month at the beginning of new fiscal year.
The dams in Rawalpindi will be built at DahdoChaha and Papeen at a cost of Rs 4 billion and Rs 1.22 billion respectively. The city is facing acute shortage of water and the new dams on completion would help overcome the shortage to a great extent.
The water supply from Khanpur dam was insufficient for residents of Rawalpindi district particularly for the residents of Cantonment Board.
