KABUL: On Saturday, flash floods brought on by heavy rains killed 20 people and destroyed more than 3,000 homes in the province of Logar in eastern Afghanistan.In addition to those murdered, the rains that pounded parts of the province also injured more than 30, according to the provincial governor’s office.
According to the statement, the floods killed over 2,000 livestock in addition to destroying dozens of canals and about 5,000 acres of agricultural land, including orchards.Numerous Afghans perish each year as a result of floods and heavy rains, especially in rural areas of extreme poverty where homes of shoddy construction are frequently at danger of collapsing.
According to the province government, when their homes were damaged, residents were relocated to safe regions by security personnel and charitable organisations. In a different statement, spokesman Bilal Karimi pleaded with the world community to offer assistance.The international community is urged to support Afghans at this crucial time and make every attempt to assist the victims, Karimi said.
According to the country’s meteorological organisation, 21 regions will continue to experience flooding and severe rain in the coming days.
