KARACHI: Pakistan has always succeeded in overcoming political and economic crises from time to time and once again, the country will return to the path of progress and prosperity, said Businessmen Group Chairman Zubair Motiwala.

While hosting diplomats on Friday, he urged the diplomatic community to portray a positive image of Pakistan as the challenges currently being faced by the country were not new and similar situations had also been witnessed in the past.

“Pakistan is undoubtedly passing through a critical juncture and it is facing a lot of problems,” he admitted. “However, keeping in view the overall resilience of the nation, we will be able to overcome all the crises and challenges.”

He was of the opinion that as political turmoil had subsided and elections would held under a new democratic government in place, most economic challenges such as current account deficit, trade deficit, rupee devaluation and other issues would be resolved soon.

“Despite economic crises, the overall situation and the environment in Pakistan is much better as law and order is not an issue anymore,” he said. “The people are very friendly and peaceful as well.”

He noted that Karachi and Pakistan were blessed with beautiful spots which needed to be positively portrayed and effectively highlighted by the diplomatic community as an obligation.

He promised that the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry would be available to fully assist and provide information to the diplomatic community wherever it is required.

He also advised the diplomatic community to visit Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry more frequently and engage in regular interactions to strengthen trade, investment and economic ties.

Speaking on the occasion, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Muhammad Idrees stressed that the commercial sections of all the consulates in Karachi must join hands with KCCI and work closely to enhance trade and investment ties of Pakistan with their respective countries.

“The commercial sections of friendly countries must play a more proactive role by bridging the exporters and importers of both the countries,” he said.

Businessmen Group Vice Chairman Jawed Bilwani, BMG General Secretary AQ Khalil, KCCI Senior Vice President Abdul Rehman Naqi, Vice President Qazi Zahid Hussain, former presidents, managing committee members and representatives of industrial town associations were also present on the occasion.
