According to reports, the attack took place in city’s Baldia Town locality where a patrolling vehicle carrying Rangers came under fire by motorcycle-riding armed men.
A senior police official confirmed the attack, adding that at least four gunmen on three bikes targeted the soldiers who were performing security duties outside a local mosque.
He said four Rangers men sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital where two of them succumbed to injuries.
The dead and injured are yet to be identified, as police and Rangers cordoned off the areas to track down the attackers.
Baldia Town is one of Karachi’s localities plagued by criminals and militants of banned outfits.
Speaking to media persons at the scene, Director General Rangers Maj. Gen. Bilal Akbar, said the attacker wanted to target the mosque “but our soldier foiled their designs.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif condemned the assassination of Rangers jawaans in Karachi and said that Martyrdom of our brave civil armed forces’ officers by terrorists is just brutal terrorism.
These Brave Jawans gave their lives in the line of duty. My prayers are with the bereaved family. The martyrdom of our jawans will strengthen our resolve to fight this battle against terrorism.” said the Prime Minister. NNI
