ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Tuesday termed those calling upon Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif to take over the country as fools.

“Such people are fools and do not want good for the country,” said the information Minister. .

Rashid was of the opinion that it is too early to discuss about the ‘extension’ in army chief’s tenure.

On the other hand, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan stated that banners, which have appeared overnight asking for the Army Chief to stay, are a though-out move by the government.

“The banners are a ploy by the government to put pressure on the opposition and are being used to create an atmosphere of uncertainty,” added Aitzaz.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi speaking of the matter said that it is a non issue and merely a ploy by the government to divert attention from the all important Panama probe.

The Punjab based Move on Pakistan party had put up banners in 13 cities across the country with its leaders urging General Raheel Sharif to ‘come to power’ and form a government of technocrats.

Earlier this year, ISPR had announced that General Sharif will not seek nor accept an extension of his office as army chief. The army chief has repeatedly said that he supports the democratic process.
