DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that there is a flood situation in 3 rivers of the country at present.

While holding a press conference in Islamabad along with Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, he said that the soldiers and officers of the Pakistan Army are with the nation in this hour of difficulty.

DG ISPR said that on the instructions of the Field Marshal, the Pakistan Army is engaged in rescue activities in all the affected areas, so far two soldiers of the Pakistan Army have been martyred during the rescue operations.

He said that rescue operations are underway in Kartarpur through boats, the Karakoram Highway has been opened.

He said that since the floods have occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan and since last night there is a situation in Punjab as well, on this, relief operations are underway in all the affected areas on the instructions of the Prime Minister and the Army Chief.

He said that despite the bad weather conditions, the Pakistan Army has completed the repair work of 3 major bridges, 2 of which were in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one in Gilgit-Baltistan, the Karakoram Highway has been opened, while the Army Engineers, in collaboration with the civil administration, have completely cleared 104 roads. During the relief operations, 2 soldiers of the Pakistan Army were martyred and 2 were injured.

The Pakistan Army spokesperson said that despite the flood situation, we have a working boundary and border, strict surveillance is being maintained there and no post has been vacated to defend the great homeland of Pakistan.

He said that in addition to these relief operations, the army, FC and law enforcement agencies are continuing their operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to establish peace against foreigners and terrorists, there has been no reduction in this so that they cannot take any advantage at a time when the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are in trouble.

He further said that whether in a state of war or peace, the Pakistan Army is with the people, no matter where they are in Pakistan, the people and the Pakistani army were, are and will remain together, no false force can create a rift between them.

On this occasion, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, while talking about the rains and flood situation, said that there is a flood situation in three rivers of Punjab, NDMA is in full contact with the Punjab Disaster Management Authority.

He said that the flow of water has increased in Gandasinghwala in the Sutlej River, Marala in the Chenab River and from Marala towards Head Khanki, it has exceeded 1 million cusecs at Khanki, the flow of water towards Qadirabad will increase, the NDMA has informed the local authorities and district administration in Qadirabad regarding the evacuation of people.

He said that timely information is being provided by the NDMA, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also chaired a meeting regarding the flood situation, the Prime Minister has directed to make the issue of early warning effective and to speed up relief activities.

The Information Minister said that tents and other items are being provided by the NDMA, the situation in the Ravi River towards Jasar and Shahdara is slightly better, all safety measures are being taken, the provincial government and the NDMA are dealing with this situation together.

Atta Tarar said that the Prime Minister is fully aware of this issue, the Prime Minister also took an update on the weather situation during the next 24 to 48 hours, the early warning system has proven to be very effective.

He said that the evacuation of people was possible due to prior information, the situation of the rivers is being continuously monitored, this is a national response in which the Pakistan Army and all institutions are actively participating, the losses of the people will be assessed in the next few days and steps will be taken for their rehabilitation.

The National Disaster Management Authority, an organization dealing with natural disasters in Pakistan, has warned that after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, there is a risk of flooding in Sindh as well. The NDMA has issued a high alert regarding floods in Sindh.

The organization has directed all relevant institutions to complete advance arrangements to deal with possible floods.

Addressing a press conference with Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and a spokesperson for the Pakistani army, NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik said, “In the coming days, we will also share information with the Sindh government about the pressure that will come on Kotri or Guddu Barrage.”

He said, “Similarly, the areas that will require evacuation, that data has also been shared with PDMA Sindh.”
