The political temperature has risen in the country since the startling revelations of Panama Papers. The revelations of the Panama Papers jolted to life the political activity in the country, the reason for that was primarily the fact that the Panama Papers revealed the off shore companies held by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son, the PM’s family owned properties in London through these off shore companies. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf who has always adopted an aggressive stance against the ruling party and the Panama Papers gave the perfect opportunity to once again highlight there reservations regarding the ruling party. However, to the surprise of many the Pakistan Peoples Party that has been accused by many circles of going easy on the government also decided to adopt an aggressive stance against the ruling party. The demand of both parties was unanimous, a complete investigation into the revelations of Panama Papers regarding off shore companies and properties held by the Sharif family. There’s no doubt the incumbent government’s performance has been praised by even neutrals. The party has not only carried out massive development work but has also taken bold steps against the menace of terrorism in the country. However, much of the party’s good work has been undone thanks to the vicious campaign the party adopted to target Imran Khan. The statements issued by many of the ruling party’s Minister’s and lawmakers have been of such nature that they cannot be reproduced here. PMLN should have handled the issue in a calm manner but instead decided to attack personal life of Imran Khan which is bad precedent.
By resorting to ‘questionable’ language & accusations the ruling party has done exactly what it accused PTI of doing.
