Mumbai: Bollywood’s leading actor Aamir Khan recently expressed his views on the growing trend of male chauvinism in the film industry.
In an interview with BBC Asia Network, he said that highlighting male dominance in Bollywood is a trend that pushes society back ten years.
Citing the strong women in his upbringing and life, Aamir Khan said that his mother, grandmother, sisters and both ex-wives had a profound impact on his personality.
“A strong woman is positive and she can only help me. Maybe that’s why I don’t feel threatened by being a man.”
Talking about his film career, Aamir Khan said that he is naturally inclined towards stories based on social issues, but his main goal is to provide entertainment.
“I get drawn to stories that have some important message when I read a script, but it’s not planned,” he explained.
Aamir Khan is currently busy with the international campaign for his Oscar-nominated film “Lapatta Ladies”. He is also working on his new film “Satare Zameen Par”, in which he is returning with a new zeal and purpose.
Aamir Khan, 59, said he has a realistic outlook on life and career. “Life cannot be trusted; no one knows what will happen tomorrow. I have maybe 10 years of active time left, and I hope to be able to work until I am 70.”
