A smartphone app for the Peoples Bus Service will be released on November 30 along with the installation of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) in the buses, according to Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh’s Minister of Transport and Mass Transit.
In this regard, the Minister presided over a meeting that included Sohaib Shafiq, the Project Director for the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC), and Captain (r) Altaf Hussain Sario, the MD of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA).
Operations of the bus service, new routes, ITS, and the creation of a command and control room (CCR) were all covered during the conference.The Minister noted that the ITS system will be deployed along with CCTV cameras, live tracking, and monitoring services, and that the app will assist citizens in tracking the whereabouts of the buses in real time as well as provide them with a means of making online payments.
According to MD SMTA, the app will provide three features: bus routes, schedules, and ticket prices. The app’s online payment feature, which will be released later in December of this year, will allow commuters to pay their fee via a QR code or the app itself.He added that via the new software, users would also be able to activate their Peoples Bus Service cards.
