Pakistan cricket’s eternal rebuilding process looks set to continue after the post World Cup rebuilding produced disastrous results. Before there tour to Bangladesh, Pakistan had a head to head record of 31-1 against Bangladesh in ODI’s. Pakistan’s solitary defeat came 16 years ago during the 1999 WC. However, Pakistan’s invincibility against Bangladesh came crumbling down with Bengal tigers white washing Pakistan 3-0 in the ODI series. Despite the humiliating defeat against Bangladesh the fans were hopeful that Pakistan will turn the tide in the T20. Pakistan are ranked third in T20’s whereas Bangladesh are languishing at number ten. But surprise surprise the lowly ranked Bangladesh team thumped Pakistan by seven wickets in the only T20. Instead of improving Pakistan cricket is in a state of virtual freefall.
Opposition leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah recently asked in the assembly to get rid of incompetent officials from the PCB and the appointment of professionals. But will his demand be heard or will the same people remain in charge of PCB despite destroying the once feared Pakistan cricket team. The likes of Najam Sethi, Shahryar Khan and the selectors who draw big paychecks from the taxpayer’s money should be held responsible for the sad state of the team. The baffling decisions made by the selectors are simply beyond comprehension; Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shahzad were dropped from ODI team because of their alleged ‘poor attitude’. However to the surprise of everyone Shahzad was picked for the T20’s side despite his ‘poor attitude’. The PCB seems more like a comedy circus than a cricket board. The most disturbing thing is that the high ups in the PCB are not even bothered by the teams humiliating performance.
If immediate action is not taken against the incompetent officials in PCB the Pakistan team will become the whipping boys of world cricket soon.
