Islamabad: The government has decided to increase the tenure of the services chief from 3 to 5 years and to increase the number of Supreme Court judges from 17 to 34 for which the bills are likely to be introduced in the National Assembly today.
According to Express News, the National Assembly session will start shortly, in which the bill to amend the Army Act is likely to be presented, along with the Practice and Procedure amendment bill will also be presented for approval.
In this regard, a meeting of the PML-N parliamentary party was held under the chairmanship of Shehbaz Sharif, in which the members were taken into confidence regarding the proposed legislation bill in the National Assembly.
Sources have said that the bill to increase the number of judges in the Supreme Court will be presented for approval, in which the government has decided to increase the number of judges of the Supreme Court from 17 to 34. The provision passed in 1997 regarding the increase in the number of judges will be amended.
Similarly, under the amendment of the Army Act, consideration will be given to increasing the tenure of service chiefs and the tenure of the services chief is likely to be increased from 3 to 5 years.
Meanwhile, the 7-point agenda of the National Assembly session has been issued, according to which a notice will be presented in the House today to draw attention to the degradation of Pakistan’s judiciary and rule of law index in the global ranking.
People’s Party’s Sahar Kamran will draw the attention of the House on Pakistan’s ranking of 129 out of 142 in the Rule of Law Index 2024 global ranking, while the Law Minister will take the House into confidence about the global ranking report.
Law Minister Azam Nazir will also present the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Ordinance in the National Assembly, the attention notice regarding the grounding of national airline planes will also be included in the agenda.

On the other hand, a 39-point agenda for the Senate session was also released, according to which 3 new bills will be presented in the House in today’s session, while the standing committee reports and approval of 11 bills are also included in the agenda.
