Islamabad: The federal cabinet has approved increasing the number of judges in the Supreme Court to 34, while in the Islamabad High Court to 12 and the tenure of service chiefs to 5 years.
According to the information received by Express News from the sources, in the meeting of the Federal Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, there was a discussion regarding increasing the number of judges of the Supreme Court and Islamabad High Court.
According to the sources, the Cabinet approved increasing the number of judges of the Supreme Court to 34 and the number of judges of the Islamabad High Court to 12.
After the approval of the cabinet, the bill to increase the number of judges will be presented in the parliament for approval.
Sources say that the federal cabinet was also briefed on the reasons for increasing the number of judges and it was told that the number of judges is being increased due to the formation of constitutional benches in the Supreme Court and High Courts.
The Federal Cabinet also approved to present the bill to amend the Army Act in the Parliament.
