A technical committee is being formed to look into the Sunday fire that broke out at a mall in Islamabad’s F-8.
The subject will be advanced, according to Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, in light of the technical committee’s report.
Adding that the committee will look into whether or not the mall’s alarm system and fire extinguishing system functioned, as well as whether or not emergency drills were ever held there.
Memon stated that departure and rescue methods from the mall will also be revised in the event of an emergency.
Prior to this, Islamabad’s high-rises would all undergo a post-fire building stability evaluation by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
A fire audit would be conducted on all buildings taller than 50 feet, it was decided at a meeting on Monday chaired by CDA Chairman Captain (r) Muhammad Usman Younis.
Additionally, it was determined to evaluate high-rise structures using actual mock exercises. The summit also noted the need for better emergency services response and for emergency disaster cells to be outfitted with cutting-edge technology.
The CDA Chairman also announced that the Rescue 1122, Rawalpindi crew would receive certificates for their active engagement in rescue and firefighting operations.
