LODHRAN: According to unofficial and unconfirmed results of by-elections for National Assembly constituency, NA-154 Lodhran, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Jahangir Khan Tareen succeeded by defeating his opponent candidate Siddique Khan Baloch, belonging to ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results of 243 polling stations of NA-154 Lodhran, PTI candidate Jahangir Khan succeeded by securing 108555 votes while PML-N’s Siddique Khan managed to get 75787 votes.
The voting begun at 8am on Wednesday morning and continued without interval till 5pm. A total of 303 polling stations were set up in NA-154, of them 30 were declared sensitive and six ‘highly sensitive’.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had deputed Pakistan Army inside and outside polling stations to ensure free, fair and transparent by-elections. The polling was held in peaceful environment.
Baloch had won this seat in 2013 general elections as an independent candidate and later joined PML-N. He was de-seated by an election tribunal in August on a petition of Tareen who claimed rigging in polls.
The succeeding candidate Jahangir Tareen thanked the voters for casting vote in favour and vowed sparing no efforts for development and progress of Lodhran and resolving the problems faced by people of the constituency who expressed confidence in leadership of PTI. He said that people of Lodhran have rejected the policies of the ruling party.
Meanwhile, chairman PTI Imran Khan telephoned the party candidate Jahangir Tareen and congratulated for his success in NA-154 by-elections with a clear majority.
