Tajik embassy makes befitting plans for elections

ISLAMABAD: The embassy of Tajikistan made befitting arrangements to facilitate the Tajik nationals living in Pakistan, to cast their votes in the elections, on Sunday.

Ambassador of Tajikistan Sherali Jononov while talking briefly to media people on the occasion said it was quite encouraging to see great interest shown by Tajik people living in Pakistan who have come here to cast their votes.

The Tajik government had made elaborate arrangements to hold parliamentary elections in a free and fair manner. The government made all out efforts to ensure conducive environment so as to enable more and more people to come out and cast their votes. Talking about presidential elections, the ambassador said,  the election of the deputy of Majlisi namoyandagon (lower chamber of parliament), Majlisi vakiloni of Badakhshan Mountainous Region, Dushanbe city,provinces, regions and towns is held on March 1, 2015.

According to the Resolution of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Republic of Tajikistan a single nationwide election constituency and 41 single-mandate constituencies for elections of deputies of Majlisi Oli were established. According to the Resolution of the Central Commission in the country a single nationwide election constituency and 41 single-mandate constituencies for elections of deputies of Majlisi Oli were established.

Within the framework of the directives of the Constitutional Law “On elections of Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan”, district electoral commissions on elections of deputies of Majlisi Oli were established by the Resolution of the Central Committee, and later precinct election commissions were formed and their personnel was approved.

Thus 3209 polling stations were established in the Republic. In addition, upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 35 polling stations in 27 foreign countries were established. In general, by political parties under a single republican electoral constituency 123 candidates were nominated, including 30 women.

Following to thorough examination of submitted documents Central Commission have registered 103 candidates from eight political parties officially registered in the country, which is a lot more than the last parliamentary elections. In particular from   Economic Reform Party of Tajikistan – 6 candidates; Socialist Party of Tajikistan – 6 candidates; People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan – 27 candidates; Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan – 27 candidates; Democratic Party of Tajikistan – 4 candidates;

Agrarian Party of Tajikistan – 13 candidates; Communist Party of Tajikistan – 7 candidates; Social Democratic Party of Tajikistan – 13 candidates. In addition, in 41 single-mandates electoral districts 212 candidates were nominated for Majlisi Oli, whereof 108 candidates were nominated by political parties, and 104 – through self-nomination. For the moment, Central Commission accredited more than 350 international observers. =DNA
