ISLAMABAD: Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon says steps are being taken to ensure women empowerment under the vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
In an interview with state-run Radio on International Women’s Day on Sunday, she said the mission of BISP is to uphold self-respect and dignity of women.
BISP Chairperson said there are 4.8 million women clients who are receiving financial assistance under the programme. She said BISP will be made pride programme of the country.
She said women are important part of national economy and are playing their role in every department of life for the development of the country.
To a question, Marvi Memon said a lot legislation have been carried out for the empowerment and betterment of women and it is the duty of all of us to implement these legislation. She said women should know their rights and they should also make efforts to protect them. She said there is a need to create an enabling environment for women in which they feel comfortable to play their role.
Answering a question, she said an Education programme under BISP is in the pilot phase and the Prime Minister will formally launch it soon.
Marvi Memon also talked about the planned exercise to come up with 100 days plan for the betterment of BISP. Under this play, the Programme will make every effort to facilitate the poor women and their families. DNA
