UNITED NATIONS: India has vetoed a move by a 15-member body’s panel, known as the 1267 Sanctions Committee, to proscribe an Indian person, Gobinda Patnaik Duggivalasa, in a clear misuse of its UN Security Council membership, according to informed sources.
To accept a listing request, the Committee rules require unanimous approval from all members of the Council.
The Committee was asked to consider listing Gobinda Patnaik Duggivalasa because of his role in financing and supporting terrorist activities against Pakistan, including the suicide bomb assault in Mastung, Balochistan, on July 13, 2018, which he planned, coordinated, and carried out. In that attack, more than 160 people died and more than 200 were injured.
According to the sources, Duggivalasa was also involved in a suicide attack on a bus carrying Chinese people in Dalbandin, Balochistan, on August 11, 2018.
According to them, this man is a member of India’s state-sponsored terrorist network, which was previously responsible for uniting numerous Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) factions in Afghanistan.
The United Nations Monitoring Team’s recent reports on the worldwide threat presented by Al-Qaeda, Daesh, and similar organizations have emphasized an increase in the cross-border terrorist threat posed by the outlawed TTP to Pakistan from Afghan land as a result of the group’s re-unification.
According to the sources, Pakistan has provided clear evidence of Indian intelligence agencies’ participation in financing UN-designated terrorist organizations such as the TTP and Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) in cross-border terrorist strikes against the Pakistani military and civilian targets.
According to the sources, India’s obstruction of the listing proposal, which included exerting political pressure on other members of the Committee, demonstrates India’s “farcical” stance on terrorism and manipulation of the UN’s counter-terrorism tools.
