LAHORE: As many as six children, brothers and sisters, lost their lives as they were burnt by a fire on Sunday that erupted in a home.
The incident occurred in Kot Khawaja Saeed area on Sher Shah Road in Lahore.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, the fire, which they suspect was caused by a short circuit in a building located on Sher Shah Road, engulfed the entire floor, the family was occupying, before the help could arrive.
Three of the children died on the spot whereas the rest succumbed to their injuries during treatment at a hospital.
Heart wrenching scenes were witnessed when the bodies of the children returned from the hospital.
12 year old Minahil, 11 year old Zain, 8 year old Dua, 5 year old Hanan, 2 year old Azlaan and 2 year old Azaan were burnt alive as flames engulfed the 2nd floor of their house.
One woman and individual sustained minor injuries who were then shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The families of the victims were inconsolable due to the death of the children. Families of the children informed that the fire started due to a short circuiting in the air-conditioning system.
Neighbors looked grief-stricken as well after the tragedy. They informed that the rescue teams arrived late and a fire brigade also broke down during the rescue.
Neigbours stated that precious lives could have been saved had the rescue team arrived in time and if the pump of the fire brigade had not broken down.
Police arrived at the scene and has started an investigation in to the event.
Later all the six children, were laid to rest here on Sunday.
President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minster Shahbaz Sharif have expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of lives of six children as a result of fire incident in a house in Lahore on Sunday.
They extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Allah almighty may bless the departed souls with eternal bless and give courage to the family to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude.
The Prime Minister sought report into the incident and directed that action should be taken against those responsible for malfunctioning and delayed arrival of water bowsers at the venue.
He asked the concerned authorities to improve firefighting equipment and mechanism so that such unfortunate incidents could be avoided in future.
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif expressing grief and sorrow over the fire incident has directed for thorough inquiry.
He said responsibility should be fixed as to why the concerned institutions failed to take timely action to control the fire.
Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan has expressed grief and sorrow over loss of 06 precious lives as a result of fire incident.
The Interior Minister in his condolence Message to the bereaved family while expressing his sympathies prayed to Almighty to grant courage to the bereaved to bear this huge loss with fortitude. NNI
