LAHORE (INP): Ameer Jamaat e Islami Sirajul Haq has called upon the government to fix the limit of land holding to wipe out feudalism as was done by India soon after partition.
Addressing a big Kisan convention at Rajowal in Okara on Wednesday, he said that millions of the people in the country did not have a piece of land to raise a shelter while the feudal lords were not aware of the boundaries of their lands. He said that the JI on coming to power would distribute the vast Jagirs the political pharaohs and pundits in the Punjab and Sindh among land less tillers. He said the agents of the British rulers had got these Jagirs in return for their betrayal of Islam and the nation, as such, the poor farmers had a right over these lands.
Sirajul Haq advised the rich not to test the patience of the poor too much lest they were compelled to march towards the palaces. All those exploiting the masses should realize that if they did not mend their ways, the public would be compelled to rise against them, he warned.
He said that the two years performance of the present regime had been disappointing as price hike, load shedding, lawlessness and unemployment had made life hell for the people.
“The problems of only the ministers and assembly members of the ruling party alone are being solved while the problems facing the general public remain unattended”, he remarked.
The JI chief said that Pakistan was an agricultural country and its farmers worked hard day and night, but they did not get any return for their labour. When their crop was ready, the industrialists would lift the produce on extremely rates and the grower remained high and dry, he said.
Sirajul Haq noted that for the last 68 years, the masses had been feeding serpents who were biting them now. He said that the power in the country was in the hands of feudal lords and capitalists who were holding the entire system as hostage. The tiny elite was in control of all the national resources and it was least worried about the problems and difficulties of the common man as its sole interest was in prolonging their rule. These people would show up only when they needed the votes of the people.
Sirajul Haq reiterated that the JI, on coming to power, would provide subsidy to the growers on seeds, fertilizer, pesticides and farm machinery. Besides, he said, the JI government would provide free treatment to the people suffering from diseases of cancer, heart, kidney, hepatitis and thalesemia at government hospitals. The citizens having monthly earnings below Rs. 30,000 would be provided basic food items including atta, sugar, tea, rice and cooking oil on subsidized rates.
The JI chief said that the JI did not have to take up arms for an Islamic revolution and would achieve the goal through democratic struggle.
Addressing the convention, the JI Punjab chief, Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar said that there was darkness all around in the country. The people were receiving electricity bills regularly without getting electricity. There was crisis of petrol and gas and 59 per cent youth remained unemployed. The farmers, the back bone of the national economy, were not getting due attention by the government. He said that he had been raising his voice in the Punjab Assembly against injustice to the growers and would continue to do that in future as well.
