ISLAMABAD: Ameer Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has offered himself for accountability, therefore, he should appear before the Supreme Court.

Talking to the media after the hearing of the Panama leak case on Tuesday in Islamabad, he said that the Prime Ministers of other countries have been appearing before the courts and our former Premiers  Yousuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervez Ashraf had also appeared before the court. As such, Nawaz Sharif should have no objection in appearing before the court to clarify his position.

He said that during the today’s hearing, the JI’s counsel had requested the court to summon the Prime Minister. He said that in monetary transactions, the beneficiary had to prove the lawfulness of his earnings.

He said that the case before the Supreme Court was of sensitive nature and the Prime Minister should personally appear to explain his positions as there are certain contradictions in his statements.

Regarding the military courts, Sirajul Haq said that these courts had been set up with the approval of the opposition for a specific period which was over.  He said the government should present a report about the working of the military courts before the nation.

He said the opposition was not in favour of extending the tenure of the military courts. INP
