KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday expressed dismay over the anti-terrorism court’s decision in which police investigation report acquitting PPP leader Dr Asim from terrorism charges was rejected earlier in the day.

“We are not interfering in court proceedings, but we surely are disappointed over its decision,” said Chief Minister’s Advisor on Information Maula Bux Chandio at a press conference.

“This would not have been outcome, had government interfered in court’s proceedings,” he said replying to a question.

“Requirements of justice have not been fulfilled in Dr Asim’s case, justice should be visible in court’s ruling,” he said reiterating that the PPP has always respected judiciary.

“What is the reason for further investigation when he had already been kept in 90-day custody,” he said of court’s ruling which handed over Dr Asim to police for further probe after rejecting police investigation report.

When asked whether the government would challenge the court ruling, he said any decision in this regard would be taken by the family of the accused.

He said peace was restored in Karachi due to sacrifices rendered by Rangers and police and “we salute them for their role”. NNI
