ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has contacted his Lebanese counterpart over the phone and requested his cooperation in the evacuation of Pakistanis stranded in Syria.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif has contacted Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati over the phone and requested his cooperation in the evacuation of Pakistanis stranded in Syria, to which the Lebanese counterpart has assured all possible cooperation in the evacuation of Pakistanis.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has told his Lebanese counterpart that there are currently more than 600 Pakistanis in Syria, whose evacuation is possible only through Lebanon, as all Syrian airports are closed.
In his conversation with Najib Mikati, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned Israel’s military aggression against Lebanon in the strongest terms and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Prime Minister welcomed the ceasefire agreement for Lebanon and called for a similar ceasefire agreement for the Palestinian people.
He said that the entire Pakistani nation stands with the people of Lebanon in this difficult time,
Pakistan is ready to provide all possible assistance to its brothers and sisters in Lebanon in the future as well.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sought help from his Lebanese counterpart for the immediate evacuation of Pakistani citizens stranded in Syria via Beirut.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati thanked the Prime Minister for Pakistan’s unwavering support to Israel’s military aggression and said that Lebanon would wholeheartedly welcome Pakistani citizens from Syria and provide all possible assistance in their safe return home.
The Prime Minister also spoke to Pakistan’s ambassadors in Syria and Lebanon and directed them to provide all possible assistance and facilitate the safe return home of Pakistanis stranded in Syria.
