DG ISPR Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa talking in a press conference after the Bacha Khan University assault said that we are in state of war. Yes, indeed are fighting a war against terror and after the success of military operation Zarb-e-Azb terrorists are on the run. Most of the terrorists either have been killed or forced to flee to the neighboring country Afghanistan. Some of the terrorists have spread in remote areas around the country and despite of the national consensus it seems that some of terrorist abettors are still active in our society. When terrorists could not fight with armed forces they try to find easy targets, usually the public gatherings. To tackle such cowardly terrorist attacks law enforcement agencies need to cooperate in intelligence sharing among them. Obviously terrorists can be tackled in the battle field but only sharp intelligence can tackle their obnoxious plans to target common people.
It is a reality that nothing substantial has been done on creating two new security authorities, National Counter-Terrorism Authority and Joint Intelligence Directorate. It is also true that government is lacking to finalize a comprehensive plan to bring madressahs into the mainstream and to control banned organizations. It has been reported that in recent local government elections some of the banned outfits have contested elections after changing their names. Questions are being raised on the slow or lack of progress of NAP.
There is also need to implement all 20 points of National Action Plan to put a full stop on terrorism. As long as the facilitators of terrorists are working without any hindrance it would not be possible to root out terrorism from our land.
Implementation of NAP is a shared responsibility and united efforts are required to root out terrorism.
