ISLAMABAD: Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Fawad Chaudhry declared on Monday that Shabaz Gill, who is presently incarcerated in a sedition case, has the complete support of the entire party.

“Whatever Shahbaz Gill has declared [on a television channel] is out in the public, as well as the PTI stands by him,” Chaudhry remarked in a conversation with journalists.

Last Tuesday in the capital’s Banigala Chowk, Gill was detained after making contentious comments on a private . Charges of sedition and instigating employees of state institutions it against Pakistan Army led to his arrest.

He was charged with treason at the Kohsar Police Station under the Pakistan Penal Code’s sections 124-A (sedition) and 131 (abetting mutiny or attempting to entice a mutinous person).inciting animosity between various groups, etc.), 153-A (wantonly offering provocation with intent to provoke riot if rioting be committed; if not committed), 505 (statements conducing to public mischief), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), among others.

Former communications minister Fawad claimed that Gill was detained because he was “weak” and a “overseas Pakistani.” The government has previously “tortured” him, he continued, and now they want to “torture” Gill once more.

Fawad claimed that the PTI leader did not use his phone since the signals were cut off because of Muharram 10, which is why the authorities are still looking for the cellphone via which Gill allegedly spoke to the private Television station.

Fawad demanded that the case be resolved as soon as possible because the PTI would not permit Gill to be “tortured” any further. “He utilized his landline to call the [private Television station],” Fawad stated.
