KARACHI: Official of a sensitive agency on Tuesday claimed to have captured a notorious gangster involved in at least 34 murders in Karachi.
According to sources, the alleged murderer, identified as Hanif, was held by sensitive agencies while traveling from Oman to Karachi.
The area where they raided was not disclosed; however, the officials claimed that the man belonged to Lyari’s Shiraz Comrade group and was involved in killing of 34 people.
They said arms were also recovered from possession of the arrested accused in the raid during which his brother managed to flee.
Meanwhile at least seven accused including a target killer were arrested during police operations in various parts of Karachi on late Monday night.
Police arrested target killer named Hassan Abbas during a raid in Faisal Colony. Police sources said that Hassan Abbas was involved in six cases of target killing.
In Gulshan Iqbal, two accused were arrested in injured condition after an encounter with police. Arms and looted goods were also recovered from the arrested persons.
At least four accused were also arrested during a police operation in Shah LatifTown area. Police sources informed that the arrested persons were involved in dozens of robberies cases on the National Highway.
Moreover, conducting a sting operation in open sea, local police on Tuesdayarrested six criminals including four foreigners and seized 100,000 liters of Iranian diesel.
Springing into action on an intelligence report, Kemari police launched the operation in open sea and aborted the attempt to smuggle Iranian diesel in huge quantity.
Police arrested six criminals including four Philippine nationals and confiscated three tugboats. The criminals were on their way to smuggle 100,000 liters of Iranian diesel into Pakistan.
According to ASP Kemari Bilal Qayyum, the criminals are being interrogated at present and they will be handed to Customs officials after completion of formal procedures.
